Mispronunciations on Hymn #1

On the recent International Thanksgiving, during congregational singing, I noticed the words hearken and mediator were pronounced incorrectly on Hymn Number One. According to Merriam-Webster Online, hearken is pronounced [har-ken] as opposed to [hir-ken] and mediator pronounced [mee-dee-ey-ter] as opposed to [mee-dyey-ter].

HYMN NO. 1

Oh Lord, God Almighty
Hearken to our plea
We humbly pray to Thee
Grant us Your mercy
The filthiness in us
The sins in our hearts
Please pardon us Oh God
In the name of Christ

Father, look down on us
See our crying hearts
Worthless as we may be
We trust in Your love
We know You’re kind, You’re just
You’re bountiful in love
Though we are only dust
Youre a caring God

Jesus our Mediator
Intercede for us
By all the stripes you bore
You redeemed our souls
Your death gave us our lives
Your sorrows mean our joy
Jesus our God our Lord
Our Friend evermore

Amen
